This series is definitely one of
the many loved up series alongside Hunger Games, Divergent (I have not yet
read), and some other female-as-the-main-character-trying-to-change-the-world-she-lives-in-kind-of-situation
series. As always, I am completely honest... I can barely remember most of the
first book as it's been aeons since I’ve read it! But I still remember
the jest of it. I stumbled
across the first book, Red Queen, on goodreads.com after finishing a similar book/series that I don't remember... But besides me happily
stumbling across it, the Red Queen's synopsis was what made me gravitate towards the book/series in the first place. If you wondering what TBC is in the title of this post, it means that the story has not yet ended; therefore 'to be continued'... I have no idea how many books there will be in total within the series, but lets start with the review!
Red Queen
Red
Queen revolves around a girl named Mare Barrow, and how her world is divided into two: the Reds and the Silvers. The Reds: commoners in poverty; while the Slivers are
elite who possesses unnatural superpowers which deem them 'god-like' for all Reds. Naturally, she hated the Royals as they are the one who made her,
and her people live in the conditioners they have to endure. Until she found
herself in the Palace, and unexpectedly releasing her own powers - even though her
blood flows red. What will become of Mare Barrow as she hides herself in plain
sight? And how will the Silvers deal with an unnatural Red?
Glass Sword
She
was betrayed by someone she thought she could trust. Someone she wanted to give
her heart to. But life never seems to go according to plan. She hides, she
escaped, and now she on the run. She is not alone. She must bring her people
together. She must free them. To bring down a ruler not destined for a crown.
She will fight for those who bleed as bright as dawn. What will become of Mare
Barrow? And will she succeed in her mission?
King's Cage
Her
spark is gone. Powerless. She is tortured, tormented by the boy she thought had
loved her. Now at the mercy of those she hates, she lives on as the days bleeds one after the other. But behind the King's cage, war is brewing. They have not forgotten her, as she is the symbol that caused everything. Behind the shadows, in plain sight,
they prepare for war. Red against Red. Silver against Silver. Power
versus Power. Which fire will be burn brighter?
Review
This next section will be on all
my thoughts/feelings on the book, as I don’t want to ruin it for those yet to read
it. Starting off with Red Queen; I LOVED
this book. It's a mixture of The Hunger Games, and The
Selection (another series I love) and something else which made it special. I
remember as soon as I finished the first book, I went straight onto the second one (Glass
Sword). Even though Glass Sword can be said to have either more or less
action depending on the different points within the second book; Aveyard kept
the momentum high from the first, and into the second book – which I appreciate.
However, due to the plot line of third book, King’s Cage, the plot drops. I
understand why the plot dropped, as Aveyard might have wanted to portray the
situation by dragging out the story to show how much time Mare spent powerless.
As a reader I completely understand that, but it was a complete juxtapose once
that phase was over. It was like going through the book at a speed of a turtle,
and then suddenly a cheetah. For me personally, the beginning felt like it was
being dragged out, which made me felt like I was missing on the details during the ‘action’
scenes; but I understood why it had been written like that - if that was the intention.
Out of three, I prefer Red Queen first,
then Glass Sword, and King's Cage last (literally the order of the books). The third book in general is making me doubt whether or not I should
continue the series once the fourth book is release. Yet, I still think I will
continue the series as I want to know what will happen to the characters, and
how Aveyeard will continue the plot as the momentum dropped into the third book. King's Caged is also the book that made me lose my reading mojo - only for three weeks though... nothing major.
I think for the next next BOOKCLUB post, I will have to do a collective post on my recommended reads, as I read many many books/series by different authors; but they won't be as intense (like this) compare to a dedicated post. I'M SO EXCITED to share next month's BOOKCLUB post, as this series reignited my reading mojo! I AM SO EXCITED TO SHARE THAT BOOK WITH YOU GUYS! Click here! to see all the other BOOKCLUB post I've done, but I'll see you next week for some sunshine related content.
I'll see you soon,
Bye ♥
