We all know the traditional way of cleaning out the wardrobe, and it is: take everything out, separate them into piles, clean the wardrobe, put clothes back, assess what's missing, and go shopping! And the whole motto whilst doing this - if it's not a hard yes, then it's a hard no. But in some cases, this might not be effective. Let's try doing it backwards. If you're interested, stay tuned!
I first saw this method in Lily Pebble's video, and I was intrigued. It is so far one of my most favourite videos to watch when it comes to inspiring me to have clear out. It is not hard to do, and maybe more effective for you to try it out if you failed doing it the traditional way more than once. I'll will guide you through the steps down below.
First step - Assess it. Take a good look at your wardrobe and see what's messing. Maybe it's a pair of white jeans, some basic T-shirts, or even some sort of causal comfortable shoes. Assess your wardrobe, and write down the things you think will complete your wardrobe.
Shopping! This is probably the most nauseating (or fun) part. Nobody likes to spend a fortune on something temporary such as clothes. But this is why you're shopping for key pieces and not statement pieces. This is so you can make mix and match the items with your whole wardrobe.
Try it on. Now you have your new clothes, try them on and see what it can be mixed and match with. If it's a skirt, make sure it can work with at least half the tops available in your wardrobe. This rules applies with everything, new or old, in your wardrobe. And most importantly, make sure you love love love love every single piece of clothing you bought. If not, you should return it. Don't forget to mix and match with last year Spring/Summer clothes you kept!
Out with old. Since you need more space for your new clothes, you need to take some out. This is where you have to be more ruthless with yourself. No umming and aahring. This might be easier as you have new clothes you love, but for some it might be harder. To help you with this, if it's not a hard yes, then it's a hard no. Make sure you tuck all your autumn/winter clothes somewhere you can't see... Also check if your last spring/summer clothing are still items you're loving. And one more piece of advice... you don't need three pairs of mom jeans, or four cardigans.
Separate them. Make the standard Keep, Bin, and Friends and Family piles. An extra pile as we are working backwards, the Return... This is so you can see what items you've bought that you're not keeping.
Clean. Clean your wardrobe as I'm sure it hasn't seen some antibac wipes in aeons.
Organise. And lastly, everything New and in the Keep pile goes back in the clean wardrobe.
And your new wardrobe is complete! If you like this new method, then adopt it for everything season. If not, just stick to the traditional way. There's nothing wrong with doing it how you feel most comfortable. Thank you for checking this week's post! And come back on Friday, as I'll be posting every Mondays and Fridays in the month of April.
I'll see you soon,
I'll see you soon,
