One of the most highly hyped up brands on the internet is definitely Colourpop Cosmetic. Not only were they such a coveted brand due to their affordability; they create high quality makeup for their little price tag. Not only that, they are also trend forward, they come with new products every few months, they collaborate with content creators and celebrities, they have a HUGE spectrum of shades and colours for all skin tones, they have photos of the product swatched on light, medium and darker skin tones, and it was a brand that nobody outside of North America could get their hands on... until last year.
Since they launched international shipping last year, I have made a fair amount of orders myself. I slowly developed an opinion of the brand since I trying their products. The products I've tried: their Pressed Eyeshadows, the Ultra Matte Lips, the Ultra Satin Lips, the Lippie Sticks, and their Super Shock Highlighters. As you see, I have tried a fair amount of products, but definitely not all of them.
So, the product that I had the most expectations was their Ultra Matte Lips. Why? Cause the whole internet keeps banging on how similar it is to Kylie's Liquid Lips. Now, I don't want to spend a ton of money just so I can try the famous lip kits. However, I am willing to try something similar for a fraction of the price.
The first shade I tried from the range was 'Love Bug', and I love it! It is a terracotta-y, reddish brown. A good natural-ish shade for someone with medium/darker skin. Formula-wise... It was drying. I knew they would be drying, but my lips were the Sahara desert dry. The lines on my lips were too prominent for my liking, and it did come off after eating or drinking. Even with the negatives, I still ordered the KARRUECHE X COLOUPOP shades in 'Saigon' (a true red leaning on the warm side), 'Kae' (a warm toned yellow brown), and 'Rooch' (an ox-blood vampy red). Plus, I also ordered 'Little Weapon' from ALEXIS REN X COLOUPOP, because of Jaclyn Hill.
The shades from Karrueche's collaboration were spot on! All four shades suits my complexion, and the pigmentation are great! However, 'Little Weapon' from the Alexis Ren's range was too patchy on my pigmented lips. I tried layering, but it looked like I was attempting the 100 layers challenge... It is a beautiful shade, and it looked AMAZING on Jaclyn Hill. It just didn't work for me. Other than that, the negative aren't so bad. If you can stand the feeling of pipe cleaners each time you rub your mouth... that how they feel on my lips.
I almost forgot! I also ordered the shade 'Speed Dial' as I thought it be a great nude for myself. But, I ended up handing it over to a family member who was lighter than me as it did not work with my complexion - from my perspective.
The next thing I tried were their Lippie Sticks. These are not my favourite. Half the reason why was because I out grew my very dark lips phase; so this is partially my fault. Even though I didn't like the colours, I personally found it hard to apply accurately as the shades I choose were mattes formulated ones. The shades I ordered were 'Le Freak' and 'Goldie'.
After trying out the Lippies and Mattes, I wanted to try the Ultra Satins Lips. The shade range is not great like the Mattes. In my most recent order, I ordered the shade 'Tansy', and got two free minis in the shades 'Frick n Frack' and 'London Fog'. During the time, I wanted the full size of 'Frick n Frack', but it was sold out. Thank god! The shade was awful on me! I ended up handing it over to a lighter skin toned friend - and she loves it! But back to the formula... I still found it drying, but it did not look as drying as the Mattes. My only concern is that I found it feeling quite tacky when I rub my lips together.
Within my first order I made last year with the Lippies and Mattes, I ordered one Super Shock Highlighter, and it was in the shade 'Wisp'. At first I had no idea how to apply it as the consistency is putty/bouncy(?). I have no idea how to explain it, but I ended using the Real Technique's Sponge and it worked! I LOVE THIS SHADE! I highly highly recommend the highlighters from Colourpop. I think the next two shades I would like to try are 'Churro' and 'Glazed'.
The last, and one of the most exciting purchases I made from Colourpop were their new-ish Pressed Eyeshadows. Personally, I never wanted to buy an eyeshadow palette, or any other palettes because the shade combos basically sucks. It was either not enough mattes, too many lighter shades or "why the hell is that colour there?". This is why I ended LOVE-ING these eyeshadows! They were made for me! I ended up ordering the 'Heavy Hitter Palette' and a single eyeshadow in the shade 'Note to Self'. Let me tell you... The colours and formula are stunning! No faults whatsoever! If you were wondering where I kept my odd single shadow… A good tip is to rip off the foam compartment, so you can store more shadows if you want to store more than 4 shades in palette. This tip was on a Youtube video.
So... As you can see I have tried their mostly hyped up products, but not everything that Colourpop has to offer. If you want to know my favourites, they are the Highlighters and Pressed Eyeshadows. However, if you want to try the liquid lips, give them a whirl as they are affordable compared to other brands. Don't forget that this is just my personal opinion. So, take it with a pinch of salt.
That's all for this week! I know I practically took a year to review the products, but hey-ho I finally got round to doing it. If you haven't notice, Colourpop has added more to their line; I would love to try their Concealers, Pressed Highlight and Bronzer, and their brushes. If you have tried any of these products, comment down below. I would love to hear your thoughts!
I'll see you soon,
Bye ♥
